Sunday afternoon saw Race #5 in the ProMT Points series. With another packed grandstands in front of the course, it was sure to be another good day of racing.
The first race of the day saw Dan Runte in BIGFOOT beating Tim Hall in Executioner. Tim Hall had a good start off the lights, but was underpowered by the BIGFOOT truck.
Next up was Nitro Fish against Blown Thunder. Steve Macklyn ran hard, & even though Doug Cole in Blown Thunder tried to catch up, it was to no avail, & Nitro Fish took the win.The next race saw the two Ford Superduty trucks of Sudden Impact & Pure Adrenalin go head to head. Randy Brown seemed to have the edge, after haveing a good start on the lights & continued to run hard, to take the win ver Sudden Impact. Randy's reaction time on that race, was the fastest of the day.
The next first round race saw the Virginia Giant go up against Carolina Crusher. In a close race Gary Porter managed to take the win over the Giant. Diehl Wilson's race time in the Virginia Giant was good enough to put him through to Round 2 as the fastest loser.
Carolina Crusher
The last Round one race, saw Dan Patrick in Samson up against Eric Tack in Tonka. This race would mean a lot for Samson as he would need to take the win, or be a fastest loser to make it into the next round, if he had any chances of taking the points lead back from Tonka. Tonka took the win, but as luck had it Dan Patrick, was the 2nd fastest loser. But Samson's next race would be against the number 3 position in the points, BIGFOOT.
The first race of Round 2, saw BIGFOOT go up against the 2nd fastest loser from Round 1, which was Samson.
In a close race, Dan Runte in BIGFOOT took the win over Samson by 3 seconds. BIGFOOT also recorded the fastest time of the weekend, with a time of 4.669 seconds. The next race was supposed to be Executioner & Nitro Fish. But problems with Nitro fish meant Executioner would run on his own & Nitro fish was disqualified.
The third race of Round 2 saw the two trucks from North Carolina, doing battle. Gary had previously driven the Pure Adrenalin truck for Randy at other ProMT races. This was while Randy was achiving his MTRA Class A licence, which is required for drivers to compete in the ProMT.. Gary Porter showed his driving ability & narrowly took the win by 2 seconds.
The last race of round 2 saw the fastest loser Virginia Giant, up aginst the previous nights winner Tonka. The Virginia Giant had a good start, but the Tonka truck, just seemed to have that extra power & took the win.
It seemed that trucks running in the left lane in both rounds 1 & 2 all took the win. Was that the faster lane, or just coincidence !!

Semi-Final action saw Executioner & BIGFOOT battleing it out, with one of those trucks looking to make it through to the Finals. Dan Runte in BIGFOOT narrowly took the win over Mark Hall in Executioner by 0.043 seconds. Putting BIGFOOT into the finals for the second time.
The other semi-final match up saw Gary Porter in Carolina Crusher up against the previous nights winner & at the time the current points leader, Eric Tack in Tonka. A Crusher win would have surely upset the points series, but the Tonka truck was on form & in another close race, took the win by 0.031 seconds. The Tonka truck was also the first truck to win on the Sunday, racing in the right lane.
The Final race would see a repeat match up as the previous night. Would it be a repeat in the outcome though?
Tonka would be racing in the right lane, which he had won in, during the previous race. But no other truck had won in that lane.
As the lights turned green, Tonka, had a great start beating BIGFOOT off the line. Runte put his foot to the floor & nearly caught up, but lost by 0.001 of a second (1 hundreth of a second). That's closer than you get in many motorsports.
This gave Eric Tack in Tonka, his second win of the weekend & would help him increase his lead in the points series.
