Friday afternoon, began the first day of monster truck racing at the Charlotte motor speedway.
All of the trucks ran the course to gain a qualifying time,
which would lead to the race pairings.
For the championship class of trucks, they would race head to head that evening.
For the Challenge trucks, they would just run their straight course to
gain a qualifying time for saturdays racing.
The day started out with a drivers meeting, attended by all
of the monster truck drivers. The drivers doing the turning course,
where told that the yellow pillars that they would have to go around,
where solid concrete, & would do some serious damage to their trucks.
Fred Shafer, of the Bear Foot truck was concerned about the length of the track,
as there was a long straight, in which the trucks would have to run,
with the rear steering unlocked, which could cause the truck to go off of the track
if it became loose.

Round 2

Semi-finals
Finals
Monster Patrol driven by Tom Meents won the first days race, at the first ever Truck Fest.
Between the semi finals & finals, Wild Thang & Snakebite
(BIGFOOT 15) did some freestyle crushing on the track.
This is where the trucks do what they want in the infield.
Eric Meagher in the Snakebite truck, was putting on a show for the crowd,
by going over the Ruff Trux course the wrong way. But he soon found out that he shouldn't have,
when the truck launched into the air & twisted over.
At first, only minor dammage was thought to have been done to the truck, but it turned out to be
the end of the Truck Fest for the Snakebite truck, & the truck went home on the saturday.
The other highlight of the evening was straight after the final, when Grave Digger decided to
show off to the crowd, by going back over the course, & set his
engine on fire. It didn't cause any serious dammage to the engine, & was able to carry on racing the next day.
