U.S. TRUCK FEST 97

At the Charlotte Motor Speedway, Charlotte North Carolina, USA

DON'T DO DOUGHNUTS ON THE GRASS

While I was at the Truck Fest, I was privileged enough to be able to attend the drivers meetings. In these meetings the track officals ran through the days events, giving information about the track, races, what to do & what not to do. As well as the odd joke, or comments directed to certain drivers who set their engines on fire (mentioning no names,(Dennis Anderson with the Grave Digger truck)). One thing which was said on a number of ocassions, was that, no one was to do doughnuts on the grass (to go round & round in a cicle, on the same spot) The reason for this was, it would tear it up, & would cost them more money to get the grass re-turfed.
Well I think, driving those loud engine'd monster trucks, must have affected the hearing of some of the drivers, as on the sunday, Allen Pezo in the Predator truck decided to be the first to tear up the grass, while doing some freestyle car crushing. Unfortunatly, I was in the middle of changing the film in my camera so didn't get any shots. But I did manage to catch Carolina Crusher & BIGFOOT doing the same. Obviously after Predator had done it, there was no grass left to tear up, so they must have thought 'what the heck' !!

Gary Porter, helping to dig the turf up, ready for new turf to be laid !

Dan Runte lets the crowd know, he's won the finals.
