BIGFOOT's World Record Long Jump
On the saturday afternoon Dan Runte in the BIGFOOT 14 truck, attempted
to break his own World Record Long Jump distance.
His 1998 record stood at 141' 10" which he was determined to beat.
The Special Events officials had made a ramp, & had measured
out the distance. The jump was also being recorded by The Learning Channel's
"Record Setters" program, which will be shown on American TV later this
year.
Earlier on in the morning, owner & creator of BIGFOOT Bob Chandler,
& driver Dan Runte discussed the jump, closely watched by the TV crew
of The Learning Channel.
Bob & Dan discuss the forthcoming events.
After the driver introductions, it was time for Dan to do his jump,
before the rest of the Monster Truck racing was to begin.
There was a good chance that once the truck had landed after the
jump, there could be some damage to the truck, so Bob Chandler had brought
along, some of his best mechanics.
With the final checks done to the truck, the BIGFOOT crew wished
Dan good luck, as he went over to the truck.

Dan had a practice run towards the ramp, to check the truck one last
time & to make sure he could get enough speed up, in the run up to
the ramp.

Checking the distance
After the jump, there was a tense moment, as the official measured the
distance. Dan had broken his record, by jumping a distance of 144' 10".

Talking to Dan later in the day, he said that the landing was pretty
hard & he was hurting a little bit. The truck was not damaged at all,
& was fine to carry on racing.
Mike Vaters in the the Black Stallion truck, also made an attempt
to break the record. His jump fell very short of Dan's jump, & didn't
even make it over the 100" mark. The competition was open to all of the
Monster Truck drivers who where at the show, but only Black Stallion was
prepared to have a go.
