BIGFOOT, King of the Monster Trucks

BIGFOOT stated life as a normal 1974 Ford F250 pick-up truck. Beetween 1976 and 1982 Bob Chandler modified his truck, by adding bigger tires and better suspension.. In 1979 he added rear steering to his truck. The truck then appeared in what would be it's first film role, the film was the 1981 film "Take This Job And Shove It". It's first car crush was in 1981, in a St Louis cornfield. It was taped on video and shown in Bob Chandlers 4x4 shop to promote his business. Eventually a promoter persuaded Bob to crush some cars in front of a crowd. This took place in april 1982 in front of thousands of people, in Jefferson City, Missouri. The rest is history.

Monster Trucks have come along way since that first car crush. At first all of the trucks where heavy and slow, and just crushed cars very slowly. Then we saw trucks which had more horsepower and had gained weight to make them become airborne. The trucks now are all computer aided designed, with lightweight tubular chassis frames and fibreglass bodies.

BIGFOOT is at the forefront of monster truck racing , and in 1990, BIGFOOT 8 driven by Andy Brass, became the 1990 World Monster Truck Champion.

In 1992 BIGFOOT became the first monster truck team to compete in a championship series, which saw BIGFOOT 10 driven by Andy Brass, come in first to win the championship, and SNAKEBITE, which was actually BIGFOOT 8, come in second.

In 1993 BIGFOOt 11, racing under the name WILDFOOT took the championship, making it it's third world Championship win for BIGFOOT and for Andy Brass. BIGFOOT 10, the previous years winner, was driven by Gene Patterson, came in second, and SNAKEBITE came in fourth.

In 1994 BIGFOOT 11, racing as BIGFOOT CRUISER, driven by Andy Brass won the championship, making it Andy Brass's fourth win for "Team BIGFOOT,and his last championship race with the team, as he decided to leave the monster truck circuit. BIGFOOT 14, racing as the BIGFOOT POWER WHEELS was driven by Dan Runte and came in second. SNAKEBITE, which was actually BIGFOOT 10, came in third.

In 1995 a rule change meant that Bigfoot was only allowed to enter two trucks. BIGFOOT 14, the Power Wheels truck, driven by Dan Runte, won his first world championship, and BIGFOOT 15 driven by Eric Meagher, came in third.

1996 Dan Runte won his second championship series in BIGFOOT 14, running in it's true blue colours. Teammate Eric Meagher in BIGFOOT 15, racing as WCW Hulkster, which changed it's name to the WCW Stinger during the season, came in second.
1997 saw a reversal in the positions. BIGFOOT 14 still driven by Dan Runte, still in it's BIGFOOT blue came in second after leading the series up until the last weekend of racing. Eric Meagher driving BIGFOOT 15 which sported the green Snakebite body, win it's first Points Series Championship. November 1997 also saw BIGFOOT 15 sport a new red body. This was the Firestone Wilderness truck. The truck which was sponsored by Firestone, to help promote a line oflight truck tires.

In 1998 Dan Runte in BIGFOOT 14 broke the Monster Truck World Long Jumping Record. Dan broke the previous record set by Fred Shafer in Bearfoot by 7 inches.
1998 has also saw driver of BIGFOOT 15, Eric Meagher retire from monster truck racing, so he could spend more tme with his family.

With 1998 being the 50th Anniversary of the F-series pickup truck, some of the BIGFOOT trucks are sporting the new 1999 Super Duty F-Series pickup truck body. These trucks have the traditional BIGFOOT blue paint scheme, but also have a mixture of colors along the bottom of the truck body. BIGFOOT told me the colors are magenta, lime green & orange to yellow/white fades. BIGFOOT also built a new BIGFOOT show truck. It was an original 1948 Ford F-1 pickup truck, customised by BIGFOOT.
BIGFOOT have also built a customised F-Series Super Duty Pickup truck. Click here to see a picture of it.

1998 also saw the start of BIGFOOT 16 being built. This truck which started out as a spare frame, was to be worked on in when the mechanics had some spare time. But with the mechanics being busy all of the time, the truck is still in the process of being built.

With a new Race Rock Cafe in Las Vegas, been built, BIGFOOT where approached once again, to provide a BIGFOOT truck, to be on display outside of the restaurant. BIGFOOT built another truck, identical to BIGFOOT 5 & BIGFOOT 7 (which is outside the Race Rock Cafe in Florida). This truck has a new F-350 Superduty body on it. BIGFOOT also tell me that this truck has not been given a number, like the other BIGFOOT trucks.

1999 saw Dan Runte break his own World Record Long Jump at Bloomsburg, PA, & then again at the Smyrna Airport in Nashville, Tennessee, with a jump of 202 feet. BIGFOOT also won the 1999 Checkered Flag Productions Championship.
Retired driver Eric Meagher, also came out of retirement, & will be the driver of BIGFOOT 16, when it is finished.
And to finish the year off, Dan Runte, also jumped of one of the BIGFOOT haulers in Las Vegas.
